UNESCO is actively engaged in the promotion of sport and physical activity as an entry point for the delivery of values education, both in schools and more generally, in society.
Equality, inclusion, respect and fairness are core values triggered by sport. Values Education Through Sport (VETS) is a programme that aims to make young people aware of the universal values of sport, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed for rounded development and responsible citizenship.
As part of our work we created a two-minute animation making the case for using sport to empower learners to be self-determined, responsible, and contribute to society.
It was launched on International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, and received over 18 million impressions across social media within 24 hours, making it one of UNESCO’s most viewed projects online.
Following the success of the initial campaign animation, UNESCO organised a worldwide photography competition - The Power of Sport Values.
We designed and produced a coffee-table style book of the winning images and case studies – to highlight the magnificent spirit of global youth united in their determination to push the boundaries of achievement, rise above poverty and exclusion, overcome marginalization and test the very limits of personal endurance.
We also built exhibitional panels to enable the winning images to be showcased at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
